Deep Flight Oraxia
A downloadable game for Windows
Deep Flight Oraxia leverages the theme of "Duality" by having two core gameplay modes. The first is a frantic bullet hell shmup that takes place in the air. Once the player collects weapon resources in the air, they can plunge below the surface in search of alien technology. The underwater portions are a slower and exploration-focused. We had an ambitious idea and didn't quite pull it off within the original 48hrs. We did spend some time after the jam brining it to its current state.

I love the idea of a more exploratory space shooter, and the dual air and sea mechanic is a lot of fun. I think it still needs a bit of work, though. My biggest issue was that it was just too hard to distinguish where the walls that would kill you were. The backgrounds are beautiful, but they blend in way too much with the foreground walls, especially in the caves where one wrong move can kill you. Adding some sort of visual que to the surfaces that can kill you would go a long way.
Another suggestion I have would be a small mercy invincibility period after respawn. There were several times that I'd die, respawn, and then immediately die again because there was an enemy spawning or shooting near that area.
Hey, great feedback. I think you're right on all accounts. Unfortunately, because it's a game jam game, we didn't have a lot of time to do a good polish round on it. Overall we probably bit off more than we could chew and likely should have simplified the game to be able to put more polish on it. But, thanks for playing and reaching out!
